Snake Davis and the Word Blitz Queen

Created by Sheila one year ago

i worked with Anne for many years at Wyke Manor, but one occasion that stands out had nothing to do with school. My memory is hazy about when and how it came about, but back in the late 90s (I think) she persuaded me to accompany her to a Snake Davis gig in Leeds. I had never heard of him, but she clearly sold him to me and I went along. He was the most amazing saxophone player, and though his musical style was not my usual taste I had a brilliant evening. I had always loved the saxophone, and just a few years later, on holiday in China, I found one I could afford. I slowly learned to play it very badly, and Anne would regularly ask me how the saxophone was coming along. I would always reply that I’d need a few more decades to compete with Snake!

More recently, I would play daily Word Blitz with her on Facebook. I love to play word games, but she was a demon! I think the record showed about 80% to Anne and 20% to me. I will miss our battles, and the disbelief when yet again she beat what I thought was a winning score!

RIP Anne - you were simply the best!
